Shock and Awe in Oakland, CA: What were the leaders of Oakland thinking when they turned their streets into a war zone? Obviously they were not thinking at all!
Here is a shocking video of an Oakland, CA policeman deliberately targeting an Occupy Wall Street protestor who was already hit in the face with a possible tear gas canister. He appears to wait until a small group of people came to help the injured protestor and then he throws another explosive device directly at the group.
What was this police officer thinking? Is he a sadist? Why would he wait until people were trying to help an injured person and then compound the injury by hurling another flash grenade into the small group of good samaritans?
On top of it, the police are caught firing rubber bullets into the protestors on many videos all over the internet. However, according to Rachel Maddow they have the nerve to deny that they fired rubber bullets.
The violence perpetrated by the police was totally out of proportion to the situation. The news reports look like a war zone. Who allowed the police to take such over-the-top actions? Was it the Mayor or Police Commissioner?

The sad thing is that the police are also in the 99% of Americans who have not seen their incomes rise very much since the 1980s while the top 1% have had their incomes rise astronomically.
Rachel Maddow reports about the income disparity in the United States.
Maddow reported that according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), Income Growth for the top 1% of American earners rose approximately 275 percent between 1979 and 2007. Here are the earnings in after tax income growth for everyone between 1979 and 2007:
