Meeting of the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness

Tune in now here at White House Live to see the event about how to create jobs in America now.

Here is an explanation of the meeting today on the White House Blog from 8/24/2011

The President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness (Jobs Council) was created to provide non-partisan advice to the President on continuing to strengthen the Nation’s economy and ensure the competitiveness of the United States and on ways to create jobs, opportunity, and prosperity for the American people.

The current discussion focuses on the need for more high tech jobs, particularly engineers in the U.S. There is a need to create high tech manufacturing right here in the United States.

The discussion indicated so far that the U.S. needs more engineers right now.

America graduates only 120,000 engineers a year compared to China and India’s 1 million engineers per year!

The U.S. currently is behind in graduating engineers ten to one!

Math and Science Key to Excellent Engineers

In order to be an engineer you have to be good at math and science. This starts in K-12. If we want good engineers then we have to begin teaching the love of math and science early. That means we need to fund public schools better. Our young people are the future of America.
