73% of Americans told a CNN Poll they want the Senate to Ratify the New START Treaty now.
So why are Senator Kyl, Senator McConnell and other GOP leaders claiming they understand what the American people want yet they try to stop passage of an important Treaty to continue the Verification Regime Program of nuclear weapons? I guess they didn’t see the poll or maybe they are just using their own cloudy crystal ball.
For the 73% Americans that want to ratify the New START Treaty in this current session of Congress, perhaps you might want to give Senator Jon Kyl and Senator Mitch McConnell a little telephone call to let them know that you want them to ratify the New START Treaty before January 2011!
Here are the direct lines for each Senator:
Senator Jon Kyl:
Phone: (202) 224-4521; Fax: (202) 224-2207
Senator Mitch McConnell:
Phone (202) 224-2541; Fax: (202) 224-2499
Main Switchboard for Congress:
Please contact your Senators and the above two Senators to make sure they understand what the American people want.
Weekly Address: New START Treaty “Fundamental” to Security
Valerie Plame Wilson, former CIA Counter-Proliferation Undercover Agent, says it’s time to pass the New START Treaty for greater national security
On November 23, 2010 Valerie Plame Wilson posted a plea “to the Senate to ratify the New START Treaty without delay.”
Plame said in an article called “EXCUSIVE Arms Treaty Must Be Not Be Derailed”:
New START is supported by Secretary of Defense Robert Gates; Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen; high-ranking members of the Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, H. W. Bush, Clinton, and W. Bush administrations—including such national security experts as George Shultz, Henry Kissinger, James Baker and Brent Scowcroft; the current commander and seven former commanders of U.S. Strategic Command and the entire current U.S. military leadership.
Admiral Mullen said the treaty “allows us to retain a strong and flexible American nuclear deterrent…. I believe, and the rest of the military leadership in this country believes, that this treaty is essential to our future security…. I hope the Senate will ratify it quickly.”
