Pass the Health Care Bill Even if It’s Imperfect: What Would Senator Kennedy DO?

Gail Collins has it right. The Health Care Bill like The New Perils of Pauline has been tied up on the railroad tracks held hostage, not only by the Republican Senate Gang of 40, but by Snidely Whiplash Lieberman who once upon a time claimed he was a democrat in a far off distant land. The unfortunate price of getting Snidely Whiplash Lieberman to move away from Pauline is to give in to not only cutting out the public option, but also to not extend Medicare to citizens younger than 65 years old.

Rachel Maddow reported recently that Lieberman spoke out in favor of expansion of Medicare for people 55 and older both in 2000 and in 2006. Then, as a news conference video from the Connecticut Post in October 2009 shows, Senator Whiplash Lieberman proclaims he is still for expansion of Medicare for folks younger than 65 years old. This clip proves his recent turnabout on medicare expansion is a flip-flop reneging of his earlier campaign promises in Connecticut to his constituents.

Lieberman to the Connecticut Post October 2009:

“When it came to Medicare I was very focused on a group post 50, maybe more like post 55, people who have retired early or, unfortunately, who have been laid off early and who lose their health insurance, and they are too young to qualify for Medicare. And, what I was proposing was that they have an option to buy into Medicare early. And again, on the premise that that would be less expensive.”

Lieberman Busted Flip-Flopping On Healthcare

Today, the Connecticut Post Online reveals the warm feelings paved with dollars that exist between Senator Snidely Joe Lieberman and health care professionals and the Insurance Industry companies like Hartford-based Aetna insurance company, The Travelers Companies and pharmaceutical companies like Purdue Pharma and Pfizer.

According to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, Senator Lieberman has received $2.1 million in campaign contributions from health professionals and the insurance  industry since 1989.

As we approach Christmas the new theme for the Perils of the Health Care Reform Bill could be that Senator Grinch Nelson’s bribe to vote for breaking the Senate filibuster and also vote for the health care bill is dependent on turning back a woman’s right to choose abortion and have it covered by health insurance.

Many Republicans are Very Afraid of Successful Passage of the Health Care Reform Bill

Millions of dollars have been pumped into the anti-health care reform media machine from insurance companies and astroturf organizations like Americans for Prosperity as part of a well-orchestrated effort to do everything possible to stop the train called Health Care Reform. These organizations and their supporters do not want President Obama to succeed at anything because they have an eye on 2010. And, they are also concerned that if Americans realize how much better it will be for them to have 31 million more Americans with health insurance coverage, and that voters will also like elimination of the pre-existing condition litmus test used by insurance companies, voters will realize that the Health Care Reform bill might lead to expansion of Medicare down the road. Positive change will then encourage voters to continue to vote for more change and to keep Democratic Senators, Congressmen and their Democratic President in office in 2010 and beyond.

Because, what is next after Health Care? Well, more energy reform which might not be what the oil companies want to see happen. But, that’s for another blog entry.

The current tactics of Senator Mitch McConnell who is acting like a Grinchette by making the Senate clerk spend 6-8 hours reading a Defense Bill to stall and stall and stall the health care reform bill is an underhanded expensive disruptive action which is also unsupportive of our troops! The Republicans have lost their way and are left with staging outrageous negative so-called prayer sessions that would probably make the real Jesus throw up if he witnessed what some people were doing in his name.  It is time for them to stop misleading Americans into thinking Health Care Reform will destroy the fabric of this country. They have drunk the Kool-aid of Fox News craziness and must be saved from their confused ideologies and extremist tactics.

However, Let’s hope the Health Care Reform train will leave the station and arrive safely at it’s destination before Christmas. The little Grinchettes in the Senate who want to spoil Health Care Reform will be disappointed when it passes. Maybe some day they will be for Health Care Reform as they are now big supporters of government programs like Medicare.

The Health Care Reform Bill is the First Step and Must Pass Now

What would Senator Edward Kennedy do now even though the bill has been attacked by Republicans and conservative Democrats?

He would pass it because he learned from his own mistake years ago when he did not support health care legislation because it was not perfect. In 20-20 hindsight he realized that incremental changes over time will lead to overall positive change. That is what some Republicans fear the most.

In a Washington Post article on Dec. 18, 2009, Victoria Reggie Kennedy, Senator Kennedy’s wife said:

“The bill before the Senate, while imperfect, would achieve many of the goals Ted fought for during the 40 years he championed access to quality, affordable health care for all Americans.”

Time to Stop All the Grinches and Grinchettes from ruining everyone’s Christmas present of Health Care Reform.
