Stop the Hate Polls about President Obama

What is wrong with the people who post polls asking if President Obama should be killed? Everything is wrong with them. Free speech is one thing, but hate speech or inciting others to do harm to the President or anyone is wrong, wrong, wrong.

Violence begins in the hearts and minds of people and it must stop there.

Free speech is a human right and is under Article 19 in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

There is a difference between free speech and hate speech.

Unfortunately, many media personalities like Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck and others claim their hate speech is just “political” speech.

It is time for the Congressional and Senatorial leadership on both sides of the aisle – Republicans and Democrats – to come together and urge Americans to realize that it is possible to engage in civil discourse without violence or hate speech.

In fact, that is what sets us apart from barbarians and ignorant people.

Right Wing Media Must STOP Invoking Hate Speech Now

As indicated in the above video, the hate speech, the inflammatory speech to incite people has been a constant din on FOX National News and Rush Limbaugh’s talk show. What is the purpose of this type of so-called commentary and reporting? The perpetrators of this type of insidious hate speech need to realize their attacks have nothing to do with civil dialogue. It’s only purpose is to create stereotypes and feelings of hate.

Gottalaf at The Political Carnival blogspot alerted secret service about the horrific poll on facebook asking if President Obama should be killed.

This is outrageous and a symptom of a lack of proper civil dialogue about issues that confront all Americans. Stereotyping and demonizing the President will not solve anything. It is time to cool down the rhetoric.

I agree with you 100% but until we have some sort of definitive ruling from the Supreme Court on what constitutes protected speech and what doesn’t, we’re probably in for more of the same.

We can’t rely on people to be responsible in how they exercise their freedoms, as is evidenced by the Glenn Beck’s and Rush Linmbaugh’s, etc. and the current laws surrounding this whole issue are clearly inadequate. It’s a damned shame that we have to wait for something tragic to take place before we can do something to prevent it.

Thanks for your comment. You are right, we must prevent any tragic thing from happening because of the hate speech. One of the ways to do that is for more people to keep speaking out about the need for civility. Write blogs, write editorials, write op-eds, do you-tube videos, call the pundits who perpetrate this incivility and tell them to stop in the name of democracy, common decency, and civil discourse.
